Yup. Leaks....been there, done that....even got the T-shirt. Have you tried different brands of rings ? e.g. Hollister, Coloplast, Marlen, Salts. Also, have you tried to fill the crevasse with paste, then use the ring. Finally, you must ensure that the skin to which you are attaching the ring is very dry....no moisture at all. I use a hair dryer on low setting to do this. As well, I regularly use powder and barrier spray to ensure dryness.

yuli, I like Perfect Choice barrier rings. You might check into getting some samples—I think they hold up a little better than Eakins do.
It is possible to get a bad batch of rings, but probably not that likely unless they’re long past the expiration date. Do you have an ostomy nurse or WOCN? Making an appointment with one would probably be the best way to go. They can look at your body topography and how you’re applying the pouch and devise a fix. You can’t go wrong with a good WOCN or ostomy nurse. Are you in the States? If you don’t have a WOCN in reasonable proximity, Corstrata is a company that offers online appointments with WOCNs for a pretty reasonable price. Good b luck! Leaks shouldn’t be an every day experience for an ostomate. Life gets much better and much easier after you get over the initial learning curve, so hang in there!!!

Belly buttons... Enough said, that's why I got rid of mine.
However, until that happens, here is a method I found to work well, and others have tried successfully
Use Brava XL barrier strips. BEFORE putting on barrier take the strips and cut 2 in half so you now have 4 shorter ones. Now start close to stoma ans put on strips in a position that as you work out they will cover navel. Working out towards navel, overlap strips by 1/3 and keep working out till you have completely covered navel and anchored last strip on other side of it.
Now put on barrier, then edge with 2 full size xl barrier Brava strips. This will work well, poorly, or not at all 🤔
Russ.

Yes, i have tried hollister, gave me a reaction. I tried coloplast, dodnt hold past 4 hours. I will look into the other brands. I havent tried paste, someone said paste is trickier to use since you have to wait and let it try? I use the tacking method because now i have a red ring around my stomach as well due to the leaks.

I will look into Perfect Choice, thank you. i thought it was only hollister, coloplast, and eakin.
I had a wound care nurse but he didnt really help me. My sister has a permant ostomy, but hers is placed in an amazing spot, away from her belly button so she has ran out of ideas to avoid leaks.
Yes i made an appointment but thats until mid march, but i will definitely look into Corstrata.
Thank you. I appreciate the positivity. I learned to love my little ostomy.

I use Convate Natura durahesive moldable barriers with the Hollister 8805 ring that does not breakdown on me along with the Cavilon barrier film spray. It's been a game changer. I switched from Hollister precut barriers two years ago.

My nurse says thick rings lead to leaks and to only use slim rings I use hollister 8815 rings and stretch the thin ring out to double the size to fit

As for rings, I'm with Lennie. The purrrfect choice are very thin, and made of silicon so they don't devolve into a gooey leaking glop sticking to skin and hair. I think they are made of old silicon breast implants. Most importantly, the container they come is a great re-usable screw top plastic jar.

I had trouble because my scar was tight and the bag kept leaking near it. I found Coloplast rings and extenders helped. I hope you find some of the advice here works for you. Sadly it can involve a lot of trial and error.
Bye,Anne

Well... The jar is nice!
Hey, my last chance at fun until I can use my pecker finger again, probably a week.

Have you tried paste? Sometimes you can fill in the area with paste first. Might be worth a different try. It’s difficult and time consuming but keep trying! You’ll find a solution!

Most pastes need to dry, but Silken is a silicone-based gel that does not need to air-dry. It's basically a silicone caulk and it will cure later from the moisture in your perspiration. I'm curious if anyone here has tried it.

Also, let me know if you would like to try a free sample of Skinister Medical Adhesive. It's pretty waterproof and can help prevent the hydrocolloid from absorbing too much water and failing.
